Fishing can be defined as an act of catching fishes. However the term also applies to hunting or catching of other aquatic animals turtles, other fish types like jelly fishes, starfishes etc , organisms like octopus, toads, squids and various other marine species. The fishing is not that new however it is always a refreshing activity because there is always some or the other new aquatic being discovered. Fishing originated in the days of Stone Age. Back then fishing was done using wooden or stone fish hooks. The Paleolithic age which is 40,000 years old brings out the perfect traces of fishing activity. The modern day discoveries and surveys have found remains like fish bones, shell middens etc, then there are such cave paintings and stone carvings which suggest that in our ancestors also followed sea food diets. Also the Egyptian civilization shows numerous landmarks and clues like drawings; tomb sceneries etc. which directly indicate that there were also involved in fishing actions. And further follows ancient Indian reigns and Greek cultures which talk of fishing cultures. Researches also highlight that people also followed fishing trade in the earliest days. The most famous amongst them is the trade of DRY COD from Lofoten region of Norway to the south of Europe, Spain, Portuguese, and Italy. This was done during or before the Viking period lasted for over 1000 years and in the modern day world still continues.
Fishing can be largely categorized on the basis of the purpose it is done for. RECREATIONAL FISHING This type of fishing activity deals with fishing activity being done for sports , pleasure of competition basis. Recreational fishing is done after completing a permission procedure which include agreeing o rules and regulations, abiding by the laws and licensing conditions which decide the way or process of catching the fish. These rules restrict the usage of nets or webs and the fish should be caught via using rods, reels, hook, or any other bait. Also there are fishing competitions and sport fishing which aims at catching a particular species rather than finding any fish to reap a financial value of the flesh. TRADITIONAL FISHING Traditional fishing can be defined as small scale fishing for subsistence purpose. Though sometimes it is done for commercial purpose as well. It is done by using rods, harpoons or dragnets and throw nets depending upon the purpose and demand of the fish. KNOW MORE ABIOUT THE FISHING INDUSTRY. Today fishing is not limited to a certain segment moreover today there are fishing corporations, industries and big business making companies dealing with fish marketing. These are mainly engaged in processing, storing, preserving, marketing and transporting fish foods and other fish made products. For commercial uses recreational fishing is most commonly preferred , However subsistence fishing can also be done. Usually for commercial purpose fisherman tend to catch fishes of almost every species i.e. from species like lobster, krill, squids, tuna fishes, cods, salmons to everything. They make use of dragnets, hand casting nets, trawlers, hooks, dredges, life nets etc. Commercial fishing has gained quite a lot of popularity and has become a money making business overtime. It has provided a new dimension to the trend of fishing where earlier people would go for holiday or picnic fishing now people do fishing to earn a living. Fishing business is feeding many lives in today’s date. Even though fishing activity has entered the books of business terminology however it is important to note that in turn it is also affecting the environment. Fishing as such is not bad but the only thing which is bothering the environmentalists is that it is being done ruthlessly. Not as many fishes are born again as many are taken out in a very less time interval. Thus the responsible authorities and commercial fishing industries must realize this and keep the fishing under control avoiding over fishing or under fishing as well.
