Plastic worms are used to catch fish but this most important thing is fixing of the worm. Texas rigged worm is one presentation that is still considered the best. It is a rig without a weed. It is one of the best techniques that can be used among the rocks and weeds. For this, you require a work hook and a sliding sinker. The size of the hooks can vary. Different weight can also be used. The rig is usually 1/8 to 1/4 ounce in weight. You can however use a bigger rig for the big worms and smaller ones for smaller finesse baits. Use an offset hook so that the worm stays up in its place. The head of the worm needs to be tied to about 1/4 inch into the hook. Next pull the worm out and wind its head around. The hook point needs to be put through the worm. This is required to keep the worm straight and steady. This will also remove line twist. The tip of the hook is slipped back into the plastic. This makes it weed less. Texas rig is very commonly used. It is used by anglers through out the world. It is used in tournaments and competitions. It can be fished everywhere. Lure sizes can be easily changed and this is one of the biggest advantages of the Texas rig. You can change colors also using the same rig. Carolina and Split Shot rig can be used by beginners. Both are almost similar except for the sizes of hook, lure and line. A hook is tied on the line and a worm is put over it. This is almost same as the Texas rig except that the weight is separated from the hook. In Carolina line you have a sliding weight so that weight is in its place. You may also have a bead line and a barrel swivel which is tied to the end of the line. A leader is also tied at the same place as the hook i.e. at the base of the swivel. A light line is used in Split shot. Tie and lure and tuck a split shot on the line. It should be 2 foot above the bait. Another technique which is used is dropshot. This method is not at all similar to the previous methods. It is more like cat fishing. The weight is attached to the base of the line and the lure is tied about the weight. An offset hook is used. It is tied onto the line with the help of a Palomar knot. The knot has a tag end which is quite long. The length of the tag may vary according to the type of fish. To start with you can use 8 to twelve inches. To place the bait to the bottom you need to put a weight at the tag end. The rig is then thrown out and allowed to go down. The worm comes in front of the fish's face. The worm does all the work so it is an easy method. The standard weight is a 3/16 ounce but you can adjust the weights can be adjusted depending upon the conditions. Dropshot is a new technique which is slowly gaining popularity. This technique presents the lure accurately by using a horizontal presentation. Dart head style or exposed jig head is one of the popular styles used in the West. Jig and darts of different sizes are used. Usually a 1/4 ounce dart head is used. The hook is 1/0 or 2/0. Tie the worm on the hook, the hook is exposed. It is mostly used in rocky areas by anglers where there are few bushes. It is the best rig on rock drop offs. An open hook design adds to its advantages. You need to know all the techniques of worm fishing. You have to be flexible and adjust according to situations. Some anglers may use specific techniques. They may also succeed with these techniques but you must know all about worm fishing in order to become a good angler!
